Totally redesigned for 2006, the new Mazda MX-5 Miata is larger, more powerful, better handling, better equipped, and overall more mature than its predecessor.
Standard equipment on the entry Mazda MX-5 "Club Spec" includes only very basic features, such as a plastic steering-wheel and gear-shift knob, and cloth seat-upholstery. Highlights include power windows and mirrors, and 205/50 VR16 tires on alloy wheels. The actual base "MX-5" model adds air-conditioning and a leather steering-wheel for a premium of $1,000. Comprehensive safety equipment with 4-wheel anti-lock brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, and front and side-impact airbags is standard for all models.
Popular options include sports-suspension, leather seat-upholstery, 17-in. tires and wheels, a BOSE audio system, cruise control, Xenon HID headlights, and electronic stability program (DSC).
Prices for the "Club Spec" start at $20,435, while the "Grand Touring" model lists for $24,435.
The 2006 Mazda MX5 Miata Roadster compares to the BMW Z4, Honda S2000, Mercedes-Benz SLK, Pontiac Solstice, Porsche Boxster, and Saturn Sky.
